The wind Caves

The wind Caves...

On Saturday May 29th the Gardner's, the kids and I went on a hike up the Wind cave Trail. It was a spur of the moment thing.Aaron was helping a friend with a fundraiser for Primary children's Hospital We knew it had been raining that morning but it was beautiful and sunny at the time. We climbed into our cars and headed up. As we got out of the cars and headed to the trail the first indication that the trail might be too muddy to climb came down the hill. A family was coming back from the hike and the teenage daughter had a leg covered in mud. She had fallen on one of the more mucky spots. that didn't sway us from our plans though. We were determined!

Don't they look determined :)

As we started up the mountain. It was a little muddy not horrible but muddy. Katie and I were sining songs with the kids to keep them occupied. ( secretly we had a bet to see who the first complainer was,We were pretty much on the money) All of the kids were troopers. it was a lot harder to climb through the mud. to get to the wind caves its 1.8 miles and we only went to the half way point. so we climbed up a mile. It was so BEAUTIFUL up there. I remembered all of the wonderful things that I love about hiking.I can't imagine a world where this kind of beauty doesn't exist. I am truly grateful to see it.it is so awesome to live near the mountains where I can take my family and show them all that they have to offer.

I snapped this picture without them knowing what I was doing. It is one of my favorites from the day!!! My 3 little duck in a row, enjoying the hike and beauty that the mountain had to offer.

A classic Katie and Crystal Picture. loving the outdoors and good times spent with family!

An incomplete family picture, but none the less a family picture :)
Katie Joel and CK at our stopping point. What a fun way to spend the afternoon. and to boot have a great memory!
So after we started down the mountain it started raining and getting even muddier. it made it interesting to go down the hill.

While we adults were deliberating if we should continue the climb up to the caves or go back. Kyah decided it was time for some war paint on. I couldn't biss this opportunity :)
I love how fun she is. When I just sit back and watch her she is such a fun girl and just loves to be around people and soak in the fun and companionship! What an awesome girl!

On the way back down Katie and Chelsea left us in the dust and high tailed it back to the bottom of the trail. Kyah and Charles disappeared for a second and this is where I found them. they said" We are camouflaged mom, you can't see us"( waving their Jedi hands as they spoke) I seriously almost peed my pants from laughing :)

And we are right back at the beginning , full circle. Except now the kids are Full of mud. I still have shoes on my porch that need the mud cleaned off of them. But now this is another awesome memory from Summer of 2010!
